Mitochondrial Bioenergetics & Membrane Excitability

We study pathways that alter mitochondrial function, and in turn affect cellular bioenergetics and membrane excitability. Mitochondria are central to ATP production, metabolism, redox homeostasis, and calcium signaling. Mitochondrial abnormalities underlie many diseases like cancer, immune disorders, heart failure, diabetes, neurological and other age-related diseases.

Our goal is to elucidate signaling pathways fundamental to mitochondrial bioenergetics, which could lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to combat human disease.

In this regard, we employ various model systems and high-resolution mitochondrial patch clamp, imaging, and omics techniques to answer our research questions.
