Plastic Surgery Research
Division Chief
Sheri Slezak, MD
Our research program strives to advance the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, and impact future clinical patient management. Our research interests focus on clinical outcomes after plastic and reconstructive surgery, including breast surgery, craniofacial surgery, abdominal wall and body contouring, and advanced reconstruction of soft tissue defects throughout the body. As part of basic science investigation, we are studying the role of biofilms in implant infections and strategies to reduce infection levels and prevention of biofilm formation.
Our research goals focus on further advancing patient care, safety and innovation. We have multiple ongoing projects combining bench lab and clinical studies. We are continuing to expand our projects with grant support and collaborations across surgical divisions and the University of Maryland campus.
