The 2nd Annual Friendraiser for the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine

The 2nd Annual University of Maryland School of Medicine Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine “Friendraiser” was held on Sunday, October 28, 2012, in the rooftop Olive Room restaurant at the Inn at the Black Olive, in the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore. A sell-out crowd turned out for the event despite severe weather conditions produced by Hurricane Sandy. Guests had the opportunity to interact with faculty members from the Stem Cell Center and hear about the exciting stem cell research being done here at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Speakers included: Dr. Curt Civin, Director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology; Mr. Stelios Spiliadis, Owner, The Inn at the Black Olive; Ms. MB Lancaster, former patient of Dr. Civin; Ms. Julie Taylor, 3rd year medical student at University of Maryland School of Medicine; and Mr. Marty Taylor, former Civin lab member. The event honored the work of the Honorable Pete Hammen and the Honorable Sandy Rosenberg, for advancing stem cell research in Maryland. Delegates Hammen and Rosenberg, who have written and advocated for legislation supporting critical stem cell research, were presented with certificates of appreciation signed by Drs. Perman, Reece, and Civin.

100% of event proceeds benefit stem cell research at the UMSOM.
