Shock Trauma Center Fellowships
Extracorporeal Life Support Fellowship
Extracorporeal Life Support Fellowship

Welcome

The Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Fellowship was created in 2020 to help critical care-trained physicians develop expertise in advanced extracorporeal modalities. The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is one of the busiest programs in the country and consistently has outcomes well above the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) average.

The Shock Trauma Center is also home to one of the few MARS (Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System) programs in the country. Based out of the Multi-Trauma Critical Care Unit (MTCC), the MARS program offers extracorporeal liver support to patients with fulminant liver failure from a variety of causes including acetaminophen overdose, acute hepatitis, and trauma.

Shock Trauma and the ECLS Fellowship provide an amazing opportunity for fellows to further develop their clinical and research skills, preparing them for a successful academic career. The experiences in the ECLS fellowship are flexible, allowing fellows to tailor their rotations to their academic interests. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
