How to Apply: SCC, EM/SCC and ACS Fellowships

The application process for our Surgical Critical Care, Emergency Medicine/Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery fellowships is through SAFAS. Please go to SAFAS for additional information, to access the application, and for specific dates and deadlines.

Surgical Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery Fellowships

Eligibility

The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center has eight (8) ACGME-accredited positions, including four (4) Acute Care Surgery American Association for the Surgery of Trauma approved positions.

Applicants must have successfully completed a Surgical residency program to be eligible for this fellowship.

 

Emergency Medicine/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Eligibility

The Emergency Medicine/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center has two (2) ACGME-accredited positions dedicated to EM applicants annually.

Applicants must have successfully completed an Emergency Medicine residency program to be eligible for the fellowship.

 

Application Timeline for SCC, ACS, and EM/SCC

  • March: SAFAS opens
  • July - August: Virtual interviews conducted
  • End of July: SAFAS application deadline
  • July - August: Interviews take place
  • Late August: NRMP Rank Order List (ROL) deadline
  • September/October: Match Day

How to Apply: Extracorporeal Life Support Fellowship

Applications for the Extracorporeal Life Support Fellowship are not available through SAFAS.

Eligibility

  • Physicians must be board-eligible/board-certified in critical care (ACCM, CCM, SCC).
  • Physicians with residency training in emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and anesthesia are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply for ECLS

Applicants should submit the following to Tammy Bass, Senior Program Coordinator:

  • A letter of interest/cover letter
  • CV
  • Three letters of recommendation

Timeline

Because the ECLS Fellowship is non-ACGME accredited, the timeline for application is approximate. There is some flexibility in both the application cycle and academic year.

November 1: Applications open
December 15: Applications due
December 20: Interviews offered
Mid-January: Virtual interviews
Late January: Final decisions
July 20: In-person orientation
August 1: Clinical start date
July 31: Clinical end date
