Basic and Translational Radiation Research
Research within the Division of Translational Radiation Sciences (DTRS) balances a strong scientific platform with early-to-advanced-stage development of new therapeutic strategies to improve the therapeutic ratio in radiation cancer treatment. Investigators within the division take a holistic approach to interrogate the biologic complexities underlying tumor biology, treatment response, and normal tissue injury and to identify new biomarkers of tissue damage and recovery.
Research within the division is focused on the following six major themes:
- Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies for Clinically Relevant Normal Tissue Injury
- Imaging and Image Guidance for Precision Small Animal Radiotherapy
- Proton Microbeam and Ion Beam Therapy
- Hyperthermia Therapy
- Tumor Biology and Radioresistance
