Radiation Oncology
Application Process & Interviews

Prerequisites

All applicants must possess either:

1) A PhD in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program, or
2) A PhD or equivalent degree in physics or relevant field(s) with the following six courses taken at a CAMPEP-accredited graduate or certificate program:

  • Radiological Physics and Dosimetry
  • Radiation Protection and Radiation Safety
  • Fundamentals of Imaging in Medicine
  • Radiobiology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Radiation Therapy Physics

Applicants are invited to apply to our program provided that the above requirements will be met before the start of residency training. All applicants must apply through the AAPM Medical Physics Residency Application program (MP-RAP). The University of Maryland Medical Physics Residency program subscribes to the Medical Physics Match managed by the national Matching System (NMS). Therefore, all applicants to our program must sign up for the Match. Our program sponsors H1B visas for applicants without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Admission for any other visa categories such as F1/OPT, J1, and all others that do not fall in the H1B category are not supported.

Residency Interviews

After our selection committee has reviewed your application, you will receive an email or phone call informing you of the status of your application. All interviews are by invitation only. Interviews will be conducted virtually and are typically scheduled from morning to mid-afternoon. We have found that this format allows for a more organized interview experience for both applicants and our faculty, and minimizes interruptions. The residents will be asked to record a 5-minute video presentation and send the recorded file one week in advance of the interview day.

Number of PGY-1 vacancies: two (2) - to start July 1, 2025
