Resident Financial Support

Residents in this program are supported by funds from the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Stipend levels for residencies are defined by the GME office. Physics residents are hired as residents (starting from PGY1) through the UMMC and are subject to salary increases. Updated information is available on the GME website.

Typical financial support and burden for medical physics residents are as follows:

  • Salary: $63,009/year for PGY-1 and $66,092 /year for PGY-2 for academic year 2024-2025
  • Travel and academic support: Residents typically attend at least one national meeting in the second year of the program, depending on the availability of funds and the resident’s performance. Financial support includes registration, travel, and reasonable lodging for approved national and regional meetings (~$8000 per resident for the duration of the program). Typically, our physics residents attend regional clinical chapter meetings including MAC-AAPM in their first year. During their second year, residents attend the AAPM Annual Meeting and Exhibition held in July or August, and the Spring Clinical Meeting held in March or April.
