Leading Healthcare Executive Rachel Hoover, MS, MBA, Named Executive Vice President at UM Faculty Physicians, Inc.
William F. Regine, MD, President of University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. (FPI), along with University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Dean Mark T. Gladwin, MD announced today that Rachel L. Hoover, MS, MBA, will serve as the new FPI Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer (EVP/CAO), effective May 1.

UMSOM Academic Departments Rank Among Top Medical Schools in New Blue Ridge Rankings
The 2022 Blue Ridge Rankings were released this week, and 11 academic departments of all University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) are now ranked in the Top 20. This ranking is based on total research awards received from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Four of UMSOM’s departments–Microbiology & Immunology, Anesthesiology, Orthopaedics, and Epidemiology & Public Health–are ranked in the Top 10.

UMSOM’s 16th Annual “Celebrating Diversity” Dinner Supports Student Scholarships
The University of Maryland School of Medicine held its 16th annual “Celebrating Diversity” Dinner event on February 25, 2023, at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel. The annual event honors the School’s diversity efforts by recognizing those who have helped increase diversity in the field of medicine, while raising support for an endowed scholarship in the name of Dean Emeritus Donald E. Wilson, MD, MACP, AGAF.

A group of four clinical laboratory science graduate students within the Department of Medical and Research Technology (DMRT) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) took the top prize at the 11th annual America’s Got Regulatory Science Talent competition, which was held on February 6, 2023, at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP).

Pioneering Stem Cell Researcher Dr. Curt Civin To Step Down as UMSOM Associate Dean For Research
University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Dean Mark T. Gladwin, MD, announced today that Curt I. Civin, MD, the Philip A. Zaffere Distinguished Professor in Regenerative Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Physiology, will step down from his position of Associate Dean for Research at UMSOM. Freed from the more global responsibilities inherent in the Associate Dean position, Dr. Civin will instead devote increased time and focus on leading novel stem cell and cancer research projects while pursuing his continuing role as Director of UMSOM’s Center for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine.

UMSOM Department of Epidemiology & Public Health Announces New Leadership for Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Center
Jay S. Magaziner, PhD, MSHyg, Professor and Chair of Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), announced today the departure of J. Kathleen “Kate” Tracy, PhD, Professor and Vice Chair for Research Services, and the Director of the Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Center (CTRIC) in that department. Starting in May 2023, she will begin her new role as Professor of Medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Research at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

UM School of Medicine Names Juanita Simmons as Assistant Director of Financial Assistance
