The Geriatric Division offers the following specialty services:
- Senior Outreach Service (SOS)
The Senior Outreach Service (SOS) is a Baltimore City-funded home visit program that serves Baltimore City residents who are 65+ years and have a psychiatric illness, and are unwilling or unable to obtain services at a clinic. SOS is staffed by a nurse psychotherapist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a highly effective and safe treatment for individuals who have severe depression and some other severe psychiatric illnesses that have not been relieved by other treatments, including medication and psychotherapy.
ECT is offered to adults of all ages, both inpatients and outpatients, in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) downtown campus. Faculty attending psychiatrists who specialize in ECT collaborate with faculty attending anesthesiologists and anesthesiology staff to provide ECT with personalized, expert care.
