Biosketch
After earning my PhD in Biochemistry in 2002, I worked briefly for a Biotech company where I developed and tested novel drugs for Parkinson Disease. This experience introduced me to Central Nervous System disorders, and I have become interested in neurological injuries and patients' outcome.
In 2013, I became an attending physician for the Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU), which is the first critical care unit of its kind in the United States. Every month we receive and resuscitate hundreds of critically ill patients being transferred from different hospitals from the state of Maryland and its neighboring states. From this unique clinical experience, I have developed a strong interest in improving the process of care for critically ill patients who are transferred to ICUs.
Being faculty at the School of Medicine and with a background in research, I have a keen interest in developing next generation of physician scientists. I founded the Research Associate Program in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in January 2016 (Our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ResearchEMCC). Our mentorship program aims at improving undergraduate students' competitiveness for professional schools through effective mentorship, research experience and productivity and leadership experience. Our mission has been very successful. Every year, our students present at regional and national conferences and we publish monthly with our students as coauthors every time. Each application cycle, a large majority of our students gets accepted to medical school (majority to UMSOM) and other professional schools.

Research Interests
Patients with neurologic injuries (traumatic brain injury, spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke) have significant mortality and morbidity. Blood pressure management has been important in these patients. Our group focuses on the blood pressure management and outcomes for these patients since they arrive at an emergency department, en route from another hospital to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), and during the first few hours after they arrive at UMMC.
Blood pressure management is only one aspect of caring for critically ill patients. Our research also aims to improve the process of care for the critically ill patients who need to be transferred from another hospital to UMMC for tertiary or quaternary care.
