Dr. Tewelde currently serves as Assistant Professor & Assistant Residency Program Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Her undergraduate medical education began here at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She continued on to post-graduate training in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Upon completion of residency she developed an interest in cardiovascular emergences; this lead to her pursuit of an untraditional fellowship, focused on acute identification & management of cardiovascular crises for emergency physicians. During that time she worked closely with cardiology colleagues and also participated in the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Teaching Fellowship, honing her skills in collaborative medicine, academics, and advocacy. As a junior-faculty member she dedicates her non-clinical time to education and service in various arenas including: School of Medicine, Residency, and Fellowship. She’s published on emergency cardiology topics in both the emergency medicine as well as in cardiology literature. She's been an invited speaker for Maryland ACEP, Resuscitation for Emergency Physicians, Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress (MEMC), and the Dutch North Sea Emergency Medicine Conference. She's directed & served as Instructor of Bedside Echocardiography for courses such as: Cardiovascular-Thoracic Critical Care Conference, Crashing Patient Conference, Heart Course, and Society of Thoracic Surgeons Annual Congress. She was recently honored by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) receiving the 2017 Young Educator Award.
