Highlighted Publications
I have been known as an Editor for many years, but by now, have divested myself of all my editorial tasks save Editor-in-Chief of the American Registry of Pathology Fourth Series Atlas of Tumor Pathology, a series of monographs of which Numbers 24 and 25 have just been published.
Author or co-author of 10 books (one of which is now known, with a new editor, as "Silverberg's Principles and Practice of Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology" -- Fifth Edition, 2015)
12 chapters in other books, over 225 journal articles
Clinical Specialty Details
Clinically, my major interests have been (and remain) in gynecologic and breast pathology, but I have also been known as one of the last members of the dying breed of general surgical pathologists and cytologists. I have trained probably two hundred or more American pathologists over the years, many of whom have gone on to become educators and professors themselves; I have also participated in the education of numerous American surgeons and obstetrician/gynecologists, as well as between ninety and one hundred physicians from abroad who have spent from a few months to several years with me and have returned to their home countries to practice and teach there.
Awards and Affiliations
I have received many awards and honors over the years, but am proudest of those that have been received by those whom I have taught and mentored (both are too numerous to list here), and of the Steven G. Silverberg Award for Lifetime Achievement in Surgical Pathology which is awarded annually by the Japanese Division of the International Academy of Pathology, and the Silverberg Award for best resident presentation, also awarded annually by the University of Maryland Department of Pathology.
