Biosketch

Dr. Kirti Shetty is a Professor of Medicine, and serves as Director of the Section of General and Transplant Hepatology. Her career has combined a broad experience in the management of liver diseases, with the administration of multidisciplinary programs in Hepatology and Transplantation. Her current area of research focuses on biomarker discovery and biological characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in cirrhosis.

She is currently the PI on a NCI funded multi-PI U01 entitled "Pathway Specific Functional Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Liver Cancer". This research will investigate the predictive value of candidate biomarkers for HCC in cirrhosis and provides an opportunity to combine her clinical expertise in advanced liver disease, translational work in hepatocarcinogenesis, and experience with biomarker discovery.

Dr. Shetty views the education of future academic hepatologists as a priority. In her past positions, she initiated and directed Fellowship programs in Transplant Hepatology, and currently participates in the Pilot and 4th year Hepatology fellowship programs at UMSOM.
