Biosketch

Sarah Schmalzle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease. She is the medical director of the THRIVE program of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, which provides primary and HIV specialty care for approximately 2500 people living with HIV. She sees outpatients for HIV care and prevention, hepatitis C, and general infectious diseases and attends on the inpatient Med-ID services. She has previously held the roles of associate program director for the internal medicine residency program at the Midtown Campus, and for the infectious disease fellowship. Areas of academic interest include HIV prevention, HIV primary care, models of care in older adults with HIV, opportunistic infections, and infections in people who inject drugs.
