Biosketch
Dr. Patel’s research interests include improving neonatal nutrition in very low birth weight babies and respiratory care improvement in the NICU. During her fellowship, she focused her research on evaluating different feeding methods, growth and outcomes of premature babies. She has collaborated with neonatal nutritionists in improving the nutrition guidelines. She also implemented the KEEP the PEEP initiative, which is a quality improvement project that focused on improving compliance of respiratory care for babies born less than 32 weeks as well as hope to improve BPD outcomes in these neonates. She plans to continue her work in optimizing nutrition and respiratory care improvements in the NICU.
Dr. Patel is the Neonatal Liaison of OB-MFM relations where she facilitates discussion and consultation of mothers with high risk pregnancies as well as continued communication between the neonatal and OB-MFM teams. She is a member of the Patient Safety Committee where she contributes in assessing patient safety events in the NICU and assists in improving reduction of safety events. She also is a member of the Respiratory Care Collaborative where she contributes to evaluating measures to improve respiratory outcomes. She is the director of the Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Pathophysiology Curriculum where she creates a lecture series for the fellows and other learners based on ABP content specifications.
