Biosketch
Dr. Joel Nunez Gonzalez is an established Vascular Neurologist and assistant professor of Neurology currently serving patients within the University of Maryland Medical System and School of Medicine. Featuring years of experience in his field, he has a special expertise in all facets of Vascular Neurology.
Dr. Nunez’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 2006, when he graduated with his Medical Degree from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. After relocating to the United States, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Jersey, in 2013 followed by his residency in Neurology and fellowship in Vascular Neurology at the University of Maryland in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Dr. Nunez has particular interest in medical education, featuring multiple awards, including the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award by the American Academy of Neurology. He actively participates in the formation of Neurology residents as well as medical students. Future goals include to complete the track of clinician educator while taking care of challenging Neurology patients.
Due to his background and formation, Dr. Nunez has developed an appreciation for acute and hospital neurology. This focus has led him to pursue a career in Neurohospitalist Medicine which he balances with Vascular Neurology.
To stay current in his field, Dr. Nunez remains a distinguished member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Heart Association, and the Association of American Medical Colleges. He has dedicated his life to providing high quality care to his patients and attributes his success to his commitment and responsibility. In his free time, Dr. Nunez enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
