Biosketch
Dr. Miller has been on faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine since 2015. Prior to his arrival at University of Maryland, Dr. Miller was a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University, where he provided care for patients with diabetes and general endocrine disorders, and conducted NIH-funded research.
Dr. Miller’s clinical activities include general pediatric endocrinology and diabetes clinics and consultations to the pediatric inpatient services. Clinical interests include all endocrine disorders that affect children and adolescents, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, growth disorders, thyroid disorders, pituitary hormone deficiencies, diabetes insipidus, adrenal insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, metabolic bone disorders, disorders of sexual differentiation, Turner syndrome and Prader-Willi syndrome, among others.
Dr. Miller’s past research interests focused on mechanisms relating obesity to insulin resistance, reproductive disorders, and metabolic disturbances in offspring. Dr. Miller was awarded an NIH career development award to study mechanisms by which nutritional signals alter function of the central reproductive axis. More recently Dr. Miller has focused research efforts on intensive insulin therapy and long-term complications in patients with type 1 diabetes. He is a local investigator on the NIH-funded multi-center study, The Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and its Complications (EDIC) which is a long-term observational follow-up to the landmark Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT).
Dr. Miller is board-certified in general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, the Endocrine Society and the Pediatric Endocrine Society, where he has served on several national committees. Dr. Miller has served on the Maryland Medicaid Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, and is a past recipient of the American Medical Association Minority Community Service Award.
