My research interest is mainly in optimizing and treating patients centered on blood management. Clinically, I am a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist where allogeneic transfusion rates are high. Bloodless cardiac surgery can be achieved with blood conservation techniques such as acute normovolemic hemodilution, viscoelastic guided transfusion, factor concentrate administration, and alternative blood substitutes. I have utilized coagulation assessments to monitor the effects of novel agents in clinical and pre-clinical studies. I look to study allogeneic blood transfusion further and its impact on endothelial cell function and renal function. I also look to study emerging factor replacements, blood product modifications, and hemostasis monitors for their clinical application.

Additionally, I am interested in transesophageal echocardiography and its use in assessing valvular and left/right ventricular function. With the improvement in 3D technology, we will be able to determine the operative planning and overall outcomes before and during intervention.

I contributed to developing a web-based guide aimed at supporting virtual education for anesthesiology residents rotating in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. Leveraging Anesthesia Tool Box, I gathered existing lecture material and developed new online quizzes to supplement reduced case volumes during COVID-19. This initiative enabled our residents to continue receiving valuable educational content throughout the rotation, ultimately helping to maintain our program's board exam pass rate.
