Biosketch

Dr. Goel grew up in Timonium, Maryland.  She got her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and then her Masters degree at the  Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She spent the next two years doing research at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, studying Fragile X Syndrome.  She then came to the University of Maryland for medical school, graduating in 2010.  She stayed at the University of Maryland for her residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  Following completion of her training, Dr. Goel joined the faculty of the School of Medicine, with joint appointments in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Dr. Goel practices as a teaching hospitalist for both adult and pediatric patients.  She also serves as the Deputy Director for Quality and Safety in the Department of Medicine.  In addition, she acts as a Physician Advisor for the University of Maryland Medical Center, focusing on clinical denials, throughput, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.  Her primary research interests are related to patient safety and quality improvement in the academic environment.
