Biosketch

Dr. Ashraf received her medical degree from Sindh Medical College, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, Pakistan. She completed Internal Medicine residency at Griffin Hospital affiliated with Yale School of Medicine followed by Infectious Diseases (ID) fellowship at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Upon completion of fellowship, she joined University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Hamot in Erie, PA as an ID attending and also served on the Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention committees. She then went on to complete advanced fellowship in Immunocompromised Host at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time at UNC, Dr. Ashraf completed the UNC School of Medicine Clinical Trialist Boot Camp. She served as a sub-investigator on two industry sponsored clinical trials: a non-interventional study assessing the efficacy of pneumococcal vaccination and a phase 2 trial evaluating phage as an adjunct therapy for Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia.

Dr. Ashraf’s clinical and research interests are in the prevention and management of infections in immunocompromised hosts including solid organ and stem cell transplant recipients, patients with hematological malignancies, and patients with durable mechanical circulatory support devices.
