How to get the best out of your consult?

Slides: Please send only the slides that are relevant to the diagnostic question. We do not need to review all slides in most cases.

Blocks: If you anticipate we will need to perform ancillary testing, please send one representative tissue block. Please do not send all available tissue blocks. If we need additional tissue blocks or unstained slides, we will fax a request to your office.

Report: Please send a copy of your report, even if you have not verified the case.

FAQ

Who will review the consult?
You may request review by a specific pathologist or service, but we routinely assign consults to the relevant subject matter expert in all cases.

How long does a consult report take to result?
Expect a report by fax in less than 5 business days for most cases. Cases requiring extensive ancillary testing or cases in which we need to request additional materials may take longer.

How does billing work?
For consultations requested by a pathologist, we will bill your practice directly.

When will I get my case materials (slides and/or blocks) back?
All patient materials will be returned by FedEx to your lab a few days after the report has been verified. In some cases, the pathologist may request to keep one or more slides for teaching purposes. You may decline this request or send a recut slide in place of the original slide if you prefer.
