Research Areas & Projects

The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's research activities continue to provide opportunities for productive scholarship for the faculty and staff as well as outreach initiatives to benefit the public’s health.

Major projects presently on-going include characterizing the clinical toxicity of Depleted Uranium shrapnel and other embedded fragments in wounded Gulf War veterans, sponsored by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs; assessing the occupational exposure of oncology pharmacists and nurses to antineoplastic drugs, supported by CDC/NIOSH and; identifying and implementing interventions to prevent disability from cumulative trauma disorders in various high risk jobs in long-term care with funding from the Langloth Foundation, the Stulman Charitable Foundation and the Commonwealth Fund.
