A Women's History Month Celebration: The Life and Legacy of Angela H. Brodie, PhD

The late Dr. Angela H. Brodie, PhD, professor emeritus in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, was honored in a special Women’s History Month Event at Westminster Hall. 

Dr. Brodie pioneered the development of aromatase inhibitors, which block the production of breast cancer fueling estrogen.  It is considered to be one of the greatest advances in treating breast cancer in the last 150 years.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore event was sponsored by the UMB Roundtable on Empowerment in Leadership and Leveraging Aspirations (The UMBRELLA GROUP).

The luncheon event featured a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Margaret M. McCarthy, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department Pharmacology. Panelists included Laure Aurelian, PhD, and Yun Qiu, PhD, both of whom worked with Dr. Brodie. Also speaking was Carolyn Choate, a breast cancer survivor in long term remission, thanks to the drug developed by Dr. Brodie.
