Fellows Trauma Conference
Mondays, 11:30am-1:30pm

DC5 Lecture Series
Tuesdays, 1-2pm
A core topic critical care curriculum for the fellows including from the NIH, George Washington, Walter Reed, Washington Hospital Center. The curriculum features experts from each of these institutions and around the country. The lectures are given over zoom. The lectures are recorded and put on the Maryland CC Project as well.

Bleed Rounds
Tuesdays, 2-3:30pm
On Tuesday afternoons at 2pm, faculty, fellows, and trainees meet to discuss ALL cases of non-traumatic SAH and ICH, as well as refractory status epilepticus, as well as select cases of traumatic brain injury, encephalitis, and cardiac arrest.  The goals of bleed rounds are to:

  • Apply the current standards of neurocritical care and clinical practice guidelines to optimize the management of patients with various neurological emergencies(e.g., intracerebral hemorrhage, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, refractory status epilepticus, and traumatic brain injury)
  • Review emerging treatment strategies and incorporate these into the management of neurocritical care patients
  • Communicate the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and improve the collaborative performance of the inter-professional team in the management of patients with neurological emergencies
  • Consistent adherence to the latest scientific guidelines
  • Share 'lessons learned' from longitudinal review of outcomes

Neuro-Interventional Radiology Education Conference
Wednesdays, 4-5pm

Neurovascular Didactic Series/Journal Club
Thursdays, 11am-12pm
Discussion focuses on study design, research and statistical methods, and how findings will impact clinical decision making.

Critical Care Grand Rounds
Fridays, 2-3pm
Grand Rounds with speakers from all over the country presenting cutting edge critical care research, including work specifically focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Critical Care.  Recordings are housed on the Maryland CC  Project (maryland.ccproject.com)

Neurocritical Care Conference
Fridays, 7:30-8:30am
A mix of didactic lectures on core neurocritical care topics, lectures from visiting speakers on cutting edge research, and journal clubs

Summer Education Block

Summer Education Block
3 week course for all new Fellows in the first month of Fellowship.
This course is managed by the CCM programs at UM, GW, NIH and covers core topics in critical care and includes hands on workshops for ventilator management, chest tube placement and invasive line placement. During this time there is no clinical requirement.
