Neurocritical Care Fellowship

The University of Maryland Neurocritical Care Fellowship offers an ACGME-accredited 2-year training program. We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and provide individualized mentorship according to each fellow’s unique experience, skills, interests, and goals.
The University of Maryland Neurocritical Care Fellowship stands apart from other training programs in its inclusion in one of the largest critical care campuses in the United States (180 critical care beds) and its placement within the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the largest trauma center (~1200 TBI visits annually) in the United States and the only center to be designated a Primary Adult Resuscitation Center by the American College of Surgeons. As such, fellows will receive unparalleled clinical experience and opportunities for multidisciplinary research collaboration across the University of Maryland campus.
Unique features of our program include:
- exceptionally high volume of neurovascular and neurotrauma cases
- multidisciplinary teaching in the neurocritical care and neurotrauma units
- multimodality monitoring
- high procedural volume for all critical care procedures (including CVVH / PLEX)
- high volume airway management training (upwards of 50 intubations in one month)
- primary fellow role in ALL critical care environments
- research opportunities across multiple disciplines merging neurocritical care with critical care medicine and basic science
- structured critical care ultrasound curriculum
- simulation-based education curriculum delivered by leaders in neurology simulation and focused on leadership, teamwork, communication, situational awareness, and resource utilization
- involvement in a vast critical care campus with over 30 critical care fellows leading to an extensive breadth and depth of critical care didactics including:
- Summer Education Block
- CCM Grand Rounds
- Core Lecture Series in trauma, medical, and Neurocritical care, journal club, board review, yearly MMCCKAP exam
