Motivated Behaviors and Addiction

Motivated Behaviors sample imageOur addiction research is focused on exploring the neural circuits and molecular mechanisms underlying reward processing, decision-making, and substance dependence. Through our research, we strive to shed light on the complexities of addiction and develop effective interventions to address this pressing public health issue.

Aging and Neurodegeneration

Aging Labs imageAging and neurodegeneration research in our department is focused on understanding the mechanisms that cause neurodegeneration. We address the genetic and infectious etiology of neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on the role that disturbances in proteostasis and neuroinflammation play in disease.

Sensory Neurobiology

Iris sample imageSensory neuroscientists in the Department of Neurobiology study how sensory systems (smell, pain and touch) develop, function, and are affected by aging and disease. Our research spans from genes, molecules and proteins, to membranes and cells, and to neuronal circuits and behavior.
