Brief Summary of Research Project:
I am a PhD student studying molecular epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Human Genetics here at UMB. I am interested in understanding how age influences production and survival of sexual stages (gametocytes) of Plasmodium falciparum in the human host. Answers from this important question will help in identifying age groups with a higher probability of transmitting malaria parasites to mosquitoes. This knowledge can contribute to the efforts of designing measures to prevent the transmission of the malaria parasite from humans to mosquitoes.
Education:
BTech. Biomedical Technology, Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, Republic of South Africa.
MSc. Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA
Achievements and Honors:
- MasterCard Foundation Masters degree scholarship (2014)
About me:
I was born and raised in Malawi and I am here to complete my PhD in malaria molecular epidemiology. In my free time, I enjoy reading biographies of influential people from around the world and watching sports.
