Fieldwork Projects  

The Public Health Practicum is designed to be a supervised public health learning experience and a demonstration of the substantive application of the knowledge and skills that have been acquired in the core and concentration courses taken as part of the MPH Program.  

Examples of past fieldwork experiences:

  • Preventing malnutrition among children in Southern Haiti: Trends, challenges and promising practices (MPH)
  • Expanding the nursing role in health care in developing countries: An investigation of task shifting in HIV clinics in Nigeria (MS Nursing/MPH)
  • Felony Diversion Initiative Drug Treatment Court: Evaluation of a developing initiative for Baltimore City's indigent, drug-addicted population (JD/MPH)
  • Assessment of the quality of oral health care services delivered to the public through Jamaica's Government Dental Services (DDS/MPH)
  • Analysis of healthcare utilization and costs at 3- to 5- year follow-up after acute lung injury (MD/MPH)
  • Enhancing HIV/AIDS testing and linkage to care among high risk youth in Baltimore (MSW/MPH)
  • Development of a statewide opioid overdose prevention program for Maryland (PharmD/MPH)
  • Factors associated with insurance denials in hospitalized patients (Practicing MD, pursuing MPH)
