The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program seeks qualified candidates with an educational and experiential background demonstrative of the potential for excellence.
Our minimum requirements include:
- Completed SOPHAS and supplemental applications.
- Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Score report from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or one of the following substitutes: Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Law School Admission Test (LSAT), Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) or Dental Admission Test (DAT).
**Please note - The GRE has been waived for Fall 2025 applicants** - Recommendations from three persons who can comment on your potential for academic and career success in public health.
In evaluating candidates for our program, we conduct holistic reviews considering several factors including:
- Rationale for applying to the program, commitment to public health, and career goals consistent with the goals of the relevant concentration area.
- Work and/or volunteer experience in an area related to public health.
- Undergraduate coursework. We recommend courses in science (e.g., biology) and social science (e.g. sociology or anthropology). We also recommend at least one course that demonstrates quantitative skills, e.g. math, statistics, quantitative research methods, etc.
- Oral and written communication skills.
International Applicants:
- Applicants with post-secondary credentials from academic institutions outside of the US must submit course-by-course evaluations prepared by a foreign credential evaluation service World Education Services (WES)
- TOEFL (Institution code 5688) or IELTS (applicants must request from the test center where they took the IELTS exam to have the IELTS test scores sent to SOPHAS) is required of all international applicants. This requirement may be waived for those applicants who have:
- Earned a degree from an accredited University in which the language of instruction is English OR
- Passed a US professional equivalency exam where English is tested (example, ECFMG)
