Individuals interested in creating change in attitudes, practices and policy to transform lives for the better can achieve this goal through the Master of Public Health professional degree. This program is based on a 42-credit hour curriculum that includes four components – core courses, concentrations courses, applied practice experience (APE), and an integrated learning experience (ILE).
When is the MPH application deadline?
Applicants must ensure that all of the application elements are submitted by the priority deadline (January 15th) or the final deadline (May 1st).
How do I apply?
MPH applicants must submit a SOPHAS application and supplemental application. Follow the instructions below.
The Centralized Application Service for Public Health (SOPHAS):
In addition to the detailed application information questions within the SOPHAS application, the following will be requested:
- SOPHAS application fee
- Curriculum Vitae/Resume
- Statement of Purpose and Objectives (Personal Statement)
- Official transcripts to date
- Official report of standardized test scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (Institution code = 1884, U MD SOM Balt SOPHAS), or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). If you have test scores from the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT), Dental Admission Test (DAT), or Veterinary College Admission Test (VCAT), you must submit them directly to the MPH Program.
**Please note - The GRE has been waived for the Fall 2025 application cycle** - Recommendations from three references
International Applicants:
- Applicants with post-secondary credentials from academic institutions outside of the US must submit course-by-course evaluations prepared by a foreign credential evaluation service World Education Services (WES)
- TOEFL (Institution code 5688) or IELTS (applicants must request from the test center where they took the IELTS exam to have the IELTS test scores sent to SOPHAS) is required of all international applicants. This requirement will be waived for those applicants who have:
- Earned a degree from an accredited University in which the language of instruction is English OR
- Passed a US professional equivalency exam where English is tested (example, ECFMG)
Supplemental application:
This application is submitted online. Create a login and select MPH - Master of Public Health. In addition to the detailed application information questions within the supplemental application, the following will be requested:
- Supplemental application fee (Paid by credit card or by submitting a check made out to the University of Maryland Baltimore in the amount of $50.)
Application for in-state residency classification:
Applicants claiming in-state status for the purpose of tuition must complete this form and return it to the MPH Program.
