The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition (EDN) utilizes multidisciplinary research teams for basic and translational research of endocrine and other disorders. Funding for the division’s grants comes from the NIH, foundations (e.g., the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association), and the pharmaceutical-biotech industry.
Research programs centered in EDN include the Amish Research Program, My Healthy Maryland, and the Center for Precision Disease Modeling. The Division includes basic, translational, and population scientists, who use a range of approaches to study type 1 and type 2 diabetes; monogenic and rare forms of diabetes; lipid metabolism; statin-induced myopathy; variable response to platelet, diabetes, and other medications; cardiometabolic disorders; stroke; and healthy aging.
Key Programs:
Amish Research Program
Investigators at the UMSOM have been studying the genetic determinants of cardiometabolic health in this population since 1993. To date, over 7,000 Amish adults have participated in one or more of our studies. More >
Center for Precision Disease Modeling
The mission for the Center for Precision Disease Modeling at the UMSOM is to provide service for functional studies of genetic variants and precision disease modeling to research community around the world. More >
My Healthy Maryland
The mission of My Healthy Maryland Precision Medicine Research is to advance discovery related to health and disease, accelerate the implementation of these discoveries into more effective and safe individualized health care, and maximize the value of health care delivery in Maryland and beyond.
