SOM Accreditation Task Force
The School of Medicine has established an accreditation taskforce to work on the development of the DCI and to evaluate the MD program’s compliance with the LCME Standards and Elements. The LCME requires that two members of the faculty and staff are identified as key personnel for the reaccreditation cycle. For the 2023-24 accreditation cycle, Donna Parker, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education has been designated as the Faculty Accreditation Lead (FAL) and Tanya Hopkins has been named as the Site Visit Coordinator (SVC).
The reaccreditation efforts for the UME program are also supported by an Accreditation Taskforce which is comprised of a Steering Committee and seven subcommittees. Each subcommittee has members who represent the diverse community of stakeholders who have an interest in the MD program at the University of Maryland. Subcommittee members include campus and school administrators, medical and general science faculty, representatives from other professional schools on campus, student services leaders and staff, medical students, and residents.
The Independent Student Analysis (ISA) Subcommittee was comprised entirely of medical students in the second, third, and fourth years of the MD program. The committee is unique since it is required to develop a comprehensive survey to assess student satisfaction with various aspects of the medical education program and the student experience. The faculty and staff are not involved in the development or administration of the survey. The ISA subcommittee produced a 55-page report which was submitted to the Steering Committee in September 2023. The report included all the collected survey data, a list of program strengths, and recommendations for improvements in undergraduate medical education.
