Credit By Examination
The Department of Medical and Research Technology (DMRT) accepts credit earned through Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) to satisfy designated general education requirements, and pre-requisite coursework. The DMRT accepts up to 9-credits by examination in the following general content areas:

The DMRT does not accept competency-based education or prior general degree learning to fulfill laboratory science-specific degree requirements.
The official score report must be sent directly from the official testing source to the DMRT Office of Student Affairs. After the official score report is received and evaluated for transfer equivalency, examination credit will be entered into the UMB Banner system and will appear on the student’s official UMB transcript.
Military applicants may use Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) scores to fulfill prerequisite requirements. Please refer to the information provided on this page for required scores for each exam content area.
Appeal for Re-evaluation of Credit for Examination
Students are permitted to request an appeal for re-evaluation of AP, CLEP or IB score transfer by consulting with an academic advisor in the DMRT Office of Student Affairs. All requests of appeal for re-evaluation must be submitted in writing no later than 30 days prior to the beginning of the next semester.
