MEDT 473 Clinical Practice Microbiology

This course provides exposure to practical experience in Microbiology acquired through a 14-day rotation at an affiliated hospital or reference laboratory. Students are introduced to daily operations, workflow and the laboratory information system as they perform diagnostic techniques for microorganism identification. Tasks and techniques include specimen processing and culturing, identification of pathogenic microorganisms, and susceptibility testing for selecting the most appropriate antibiotic. Other specialized methods may include parasitic, fungal and viral identification.
