The UMB Brain and Tissue Bank reaches out to individuals and organizations across the United States and Canada to encourage donor registration.

For some, the decision to register may be difficult to consider in light of the emotional stress that they have already undergone. For others, this commitment may offer a sense of purpose and comfort to know that the quest for knowledge and medical understanding will carry on.

The information that we obtain at the time of registration is especially important and enables us to initiate the intricate process of tissue retrieval in a timely manner. It is of vital importance that we have all necessary information so that, in a time of emergency, we can communicate with the physician, or nearby hospital, to secure their cooperation and support. It is important to recover tissue within 24 hours after the death of the donor. Without prior communication with such professionals, tissue retrieval may not be possible.
