Chinmoy Sarkar, PhD, Research Associate from the Department of Anesthesiology, was awarded a one and a half year, $424,875 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NIH/ NINDS) for “Role and Function of Peroxisomal Ether Phospholipids in TBI”. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the major health concerns affecting almost 1.7 million annually in the US. To date, no effective therapy is available, mainly because of an incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms of injury-associated biochemical changes in the injured brain. This study is aimed to determine the role and function of ether phospholipids in neurodegeneration after TBI. Click here for more information on this grant.
