2019 Medical Student Research Day

The 42nd annual MSRD was held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in Health Sciences and Research Facility III (HSRF III) and Medical School Teaching Facility (MSTF).

The event begins at noon with lunch and the keynote address, followed by the presentation sessions at 1:30 p.m., and concludes with the awards banquet at 5:35 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.

Keynote Speaker

M. Minhaj Siddiqui (Minhaj), M.D., FACS is an Associate Professor and Director of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and UM SOM. Dr. Siddiqui earned his MD degree at Harvard which included his executing a research thesis project on organ regeneration in the Harvard/MIT research program. Dr. Siddiqui is also Chief of Urology at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.  Passionate about research, Dr. Siddiqui has conducted research on medical research fellowships at Harvard, MIT and at the National Cancer institute. His research interests center around the improved diagnosis and management of prostate and bladder cancer.  Dr. Siddiqui is a regular mentor in the PRISM and UM Scholars programs and consistently works with undergraduate, graduate, medical students and residents on clinical, translational and basic science research projects. Typically, Dr. Siddiqui will have 5-8 students per year, engaged in various research endeavors.  He is a regular lecturer in the medical school curriculum on topics related to the genitourinary system and cancer metabolism as well.  He has been recognized for his student and resident mentoring and in honor, has been inducted into the AOA as a faculty. Dr. Siddiqui’s scholarly contributions and activities include nearly 60 peer-review articles, a number of book chapters, abstracts and invited talks and a number of research grants. When asked about his perspectives on student mentoring, Dr. Siddiqui has stated he considers it one of the most rewarding aspects of being in academic medicine.
