The University of Maryland School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (OFAPD) supports faculty in achieving their career goals. OFAPD is the centralized SOM office for faculty seeking professional development in a variety of topics, whether within the school, on campus, or nationwide. OFAPD also offers annual courses and programs to foster collaboration and to develop faculty in all aspects of their academic pursuits. We provide resources for faculty wellness through EAP. Faculty Development
The Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development
- is the central resource for SOM faculty seeking professional development
- closely collaborates with MELA to develop teaching expertise
- closely collaborates with CARTI to develop expertise in research and innovation
- offers promotion workshops and guidance to assist faculty with portfolio preparation
- connects the SOM to UMB campus resources for faculty development, including the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL), Leadership in Education: Academy of Presidential Scholars (LEAPS), and Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR)
- offers annual support for 2 female-identifying faculty to attend the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (ELAM)
- provides continuing medical education for faculty clinicians and community physicians on Cloud CME.

An asynchronous professional development program focused on comprehensive publication strategies The Paper Trail is an intensive, five-week asynchronous professional development program crafted to empower academics to maximize their projects' impact through comprehensive publication strategies. Throughout the duration of the program, participants will delve into every facet of the publication cycle, from the inception of a project to its dissemination across various channels.

Faculty Concerns
Academic Medicine is a complex, competitive work environment that can lead to situations that test the boundaries of professionalism. While we pride ourselves on the highest standards of professional behavior our faculty demonstrate, we understand the importance of having mechanisms to report and manage concerns about unprofessional behavior.
OFAPD has a variety of ways for anyone to report concerns about unprofessional behavior by UMSOM faculty. OFAPD addresses these concerns as confidentially as possible, in a manner that is fair, balanced, and respectful.

Professional Development and Leadership Lecture Series (PDLLS)
The PDLLS is designed to provide education centered around enhancing leadership skills and competencies and assisting with preparing faculty for more senior roles. Some of the topics/categories include:

- time management
- problem-solving
