Biosketch

Dr. Awan is a Musculoskeletal Radiologist with a special interest in Education and Informatics.  Dr. Awan is board certified by both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Imaging Informatics.  Clinically, Dr. Awan interprets all Musculoskeletal examinations including radiography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine studies.  He also performs minimally invasive interventional procedures such as soft tissue and bone biopsies.

His career priorities include creating and implementing innovative teaching methods and educational assessment tools to make the learning experience more meaninfgul and productive for all of his trainees, students, and mentees.  Dr. Awan remains a strong advocate for medical education, creating a formal curriculum to train residents in medical education.   He is also the administrator for the department wide teaching file and is the faculty advisor for the radiology global health elective offered to the radiology residents.

Dr. Awan's research interests include Musculoskeletal tumors, trauma, radiology education, quality improvement, and Imaging Informatics.  Dr. Awan is a frequent lecturer and educator at many of the field's national and international meetings, including Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the Association of University Radiologists (AUR), and the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).  He moderates the international radiology residency case-based competition  at the annual RSNA meeting, and gives multiple case based reviews for residents at AUR and ARRS.
