Biosketch
Dr Gandhi is internationally renowned for his expertise in the treatment of intracranial and spinal vascular disorders using minimally invasive techniques. In addition to serving as Division Chief of Interventional Neuroradiology, he is the Clinical Director of Center for Metabolic Imaging and Therapeutics (CMIT), a center of excellence for MRI Guided focused ultrasound. He directs one of the best and busiest endovascular surgical neuroradiology programs in the country, recognized for treatment of disorders such as brain aneurysms, ischemic stroke and dural arteriovenous fistulae.
Dr Gandhi is a prolific researcher and investigator with grant funding from varied sources including NIH, Industry and Focused Ultrasound foundation. He has published over 145 manuscripts, 95 scientific abstracts and edited four books. In addition, he has contributed to several book chapters. Dr. Gandhi is a frequently invited speaker at the national and international conferences.
His work has been recognized at national and international level, resulting in numerous honors and awards. Some of his notable past achievements include Professor Shyam Sharma Medal for the best radiology resident and RSNA Research Fellow of the year award. He is a past recipient of NERF basic science research grant, Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude awards from American Society of Neuroradiology, Bruce Line research prize, Shock Trauma Hero award and Editor's recognition award for distinction in reviewing (Radiology).
In addition to his clinical and research commitments, he has an interest in training Neuro-Interventionalists of the future. He served as fellowship director for many years and recently overseen development of an excellent Interventional Neuroradiology fellowship program at University of Maryland. This program is one of the very few in the country to receive ACGME accreditaion. Interventional Neuroradiology/Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology program has multidisciplinary collaboration as one of its core missions to advance patient care and outcomes.
