The Corporate and Foundation Relations team works with faculty to find appropriate foundation funding opportunities to meet the research needs of each faculty member. We can help you navigate the grant submission process in the following ways.
- Identify and approach potential foundation funding sources
- Plan and coordinate solicitations
- Assist in proposal development
- Coordinate campus visits
- Act as liaison for routing and submission process
- Serve as clearinghouse for Requests for Proposals (RFP)
- Help with grant reporting
PROSPECT IDENTIFICATION
We can identify prospects for you by arranging meetings to learn about your research, identify your funding needs, and evaluate any past foundation funding history. Using resources like Pivot, Foundation Directory Online and Philanthropy News Digest, we compile spreadsheets of potential foundation funding opportunities with important grant specific information, such as submission deadlines, eligibility requirements, and funding amounts that can help you find the right match.
CULTIVATION
It takes a full team effort to cultivate a foundation. It is important to work closely with the Corporate and Foundation Relations staff to build strong relationships with individual foundations, as well as UMSOM leadership, other faculty members, and Office of Development major gift officers. We can help you effectively articulate the impact of your work to a foundation and how your research is aligned with their mission.
PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT
We can help you write and edit your grant proposal and coordinate the submission process, assisting with time-consuming administrative tasks such as setting up online applications, ensuring required documents, and securing letters of recommendation. We will compare your proposal to the RFP to make sure the same language is being used and double checking that all elements of the RFP have been addressed.
ROUTING AND SUBMISSION
All grant proposals must be routed through Kuali Coeus before they can be submitted. In order to route a proposal, you must provide your department administrator with specific documentation. Our team works with department administrators and SPA team members to facilitate the routing process. We can also assist with reporting after grants are awarded.
