Why do you want to be a doctor?
I have always been intrigued by the human body and disease and in helping people afflicted with disease.
In your opinion, what are the attributes of an ideal physician?
Compassion, curiosity, integrity, professionalism and passion.
How would you describe the learning environment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine?
The learning environment is geared towards the self-motivated learner because of The 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. lecture schedule in the first 2 years. This makes for a unique environment where you learn early on to be self-reliant.
Do you know yet what your specialty will be?
I think Radiology will be my specialty. I really like this field because it is like being a detective, and you learn so much about the pathology and physiology of medicine. I am currently doing a rotation in Radiology.
Are you planning on practicing medicine in Maryland?
I am on a military scholarship, so I will be in various locations serving back my time before I have the ability to choose my location.
What advice do you have for aspiring medical students?
You should volunteer in a retirement home, rehabilitation center or somewhere where chronically sick people are taken care of. This is the most challenging part of medicine and will help you decide if medicine is really the career for you.
