The 3rd annual University of Maryland School of Medicine Stem Cell Center Retreat was held on Friday, October 18th in the MSTF atrium. The event was very well attended and included guest speakers Dr. Richard Eckert, Professor and Chair and Johns F. B. Weaver Distinguished Professor from the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Dr. Dan Gincel, Executive Director for Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund and VP University Partnerships, TEDCO; and Dr. Curt Civin, Director of our UMSOM Stem Cell Center.
Everyone agreed that the science was terrific, from Dr. Eckert’s keynote lecture to the high quality poster presentations. There were over thirty posters from UM laboratories as well as from companies performing stem cell research in the State of Maryland. Attendees of the event took advantage of the opportunity to discuss collaborative ventures with other stem cell researchers on and off campus. Our corporate sponsors brought up-to-date information and held equipment demonstrations of their latest stem cell research laboratory products and instruments.
