FAQs: You ask, we answer!
Q1. Why am I experiencing delay in Microsoft Outlook email? (updated 4/18/08)
Some of you may have seen the pop up message in the lower right hand corner of your screen that says: "Outlook is trying to data from Microsoft Exchange server <server name, i.e. Pedsdc01.peds.umaryland.edu>". This is primarily affecting people located within the University of Maryland Medical System Hospital, not while you access your email remotely via the web or through Citrix.
Over the past several months our IT dept has worked diligently to investigate and resolve this issue utilizing internal and external consultants. They have applied all recommendations; some of which included establishing a faster network connection between us and the hospital, applying some changes to our server and desktop configurations. We recently applied the desktop changes to a few workstations and are currently monitoring their performance to see if there has been any noticeable improvement. We have also learned from SOM’s IT department that their supported user base located in the Hospital experience the same problem.
Our next step is to schedule a meeting with the University of Maryland Medical System Hospital IT leadership to coordinate actions to alleviate the issue.
We will continue to work on this issue and update everyone on our progress. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to give us a call at the PEDS Helpdesk. You can reach us at 8-7352.
