I went to High School in Silver Spring Maryland and I am going into my final year at Brown University in Providence Rhode Island. I will be graduating from Brown University in May 2005 with a B.A degree in Human Biology - emphasis in Race and Gender. I have always had a keen interest in the sciences which is also balanced by my interest in the humanities as well.
My experience in the UMB summer program - (Heart Lung and Blood research) was wonderful. I worked in the lab of Dr. Meredith Bond whose research is focused on gene therapy for heart failure. During my internship I performed many experiments, learned many lab techniques, attended lab conferences, journal club meetings and weekly seminars which all broadened my knowledge in science and research. My particular project in Dr. Bond's lab was focused on identifying a HSFA gene (Heart Failure Heart Associated gene).
At the end of the program working on a presentation for the Student Research Forum really challenged you to pull all that you learned during your internship into a comprehensive way of sharing the information you had learned with others.
I had a wonderful summer and enjoyed every bit of it!
