Immunization and Health Insurance Requirements
Immunization Requirements
A strict immunization policy is enforced at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Compliance with immunization documentation for visiting students is the same for those students who attend the University. All visiting students must complete and submit a Student Health Clearance/Verification form prior to being approved to participate in any elective. The form must be signed by a physician, registered nurse, or public health official.
Students who fail to document the following requirements will not be given consideration in the application process:
Tetanus/Diphtheria - booster within 10 years.
Measles - Students born after December 31, 1956 must show proof of either two immunizations with live measles vaccine on or after the first birthday or evidence of immunity (antibody titer). Immunization dates must include month/day/year.
Rubella - proof of immunization or antibody titer. Immunization dates must include month/day/year.
Mumps - proof of immunization or antibody titer. Immunization dates must include month/day/year.
Varicella (Chickenpox) - proof of immunization, documented history of illness, or antibody titer.
PPD skin test to screen for tuberculosis - proof of negative test within twelve (12) months of the requested rotation; or, if skin test is positive, documentation of a negative chest x-ray in the form of a written chest x-ray report; and where applicable, a written report of INH treatment.
Hepatitis B - Hepatitis B vaccine series (3) or positive antibody screen.
Liability/Malpractice Insurance Requirement
All visiting students must have a minimum of $1,000,000/$3,000,000 liability/malpractice insurance coverage. Presentation of written documentation with dollar amounts is required.
Health Insurance Requirement
All visiting students must have personal health insurance coverage prior to being approved to participate in any elective and must provide a copy of their health card.
