Otorhinolaryngology: Head & Neck Surgery - OTOL 548

Prerequisites:

Successful completion of Junior Internal Medicine and Junior Surgery Clerkships.

Description and Goals:

Each student is given a supervised opportunity to be responsible for pre and post-operative evaluation and care of patients on the Oto-HNS Service, as well as to participate in operative procedures. Course content includes head and neck oncology; head and neck reconstruction/microvascular surgery; facial plastic and reconstructive surgery; otology/neurotology/lateral skull base surgery; rhinology and anterior skull base surgery; laryngology/neurolaryngoloy; pediatric otolaryngology, and medical otolaryngology. The student will become familiar with proper head and neck examinations and receive exposure to ancillary diagnostic procedures (laryngoscopy, micro-otoscopy, endoscopy, etc.). Regularly scheduled conference attendance is required. In-house night call is rotated approximately every fourth night.
