Gynecologic Oncology - OBST 549

Prerequisites:

Successful completion of first two years of medical school, and 3/4 of third year, including OB-GYN clerkship and Surgery Clerkship

Description and Goals:

Senior medical students will serve as an acting intern for the gynecologic oncology service. The student will be responsible for 2-3 patients, at the level of an intern, with the supervision of attending physicians. They will gain an understanding of the presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and pathology of gynecologic malignancies. Students will evaluate patients in various settings including the outpatient clinic, the emergency department, patients transported from outside hospitals, and inpatient admissions. Students will assist in surgical cases for gynecologic malignancies and follow their patients in the post-operative period. Students will be expected to round with the gynecologic oncology team on a daily basis. The sub-intern will actively participate in tumor board conferences and understand the multidisciplinary care of these patients.
