Description and Goals:
The Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery offers a Sub-Internship for senior students in Thoracic Surgery. Students serve as a member of the Thoracic surgical team and assume all of those responsibilities usually and appropriately delegated to Interns. The student will demonstrate independent thinking and decision making under the direct supervision of the Thoracic Surgery faculty and the Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery. The goals of this program are to develop proficiency in understanding, diagnosis and management of the patient with surgical lung disease and thoracic oncology. Wide experience is given in the care of the surgical patient including treatment of arrhythmia, post-operative fluid and nutritional care and operating room technology.
